Required Listening for Staff

Hey folks,

I felt like taking this post out of the Top Secret staff section of the forum and share it with everyone else as well. Somehow as I headed out for a run tonight this episode of a podcast I follow was what happened to come up, so I listened and thought about it for the first part of my little run.

I'm going to say that TSoS Staff members need to go listen to this and then think about how it can inform their role here at the MUD. I would, however strongly encourage all players to give it a listen as well! Ok, so what is it, and why do I say that?

It's Season 7, Episode 36 of the Writing Excuses podcast. In this episode Brandon Sanderson, Mary Robinette Kowal, and Howard Tayler interview Monte Cook (Brandon described him as "one of the greatest luminaries in roleplaying"). It's a really interesting look at the difference between campaign settings/writing these sorts of things for others vs. writing novels/NPCs/etc.

It's good! It does require a little bit of thinking on how it can link in to RP on a MUD, but it is worth it, for sure.

Suggested listening:

This videocast is led by Patrick Rothfuss, who I believe is one of the staff's favorite authors. I know I certainly love him and his two books: Name of the wind, The Wise Man's Fear.

Something a little textbook, but still interesting.

These are two interesting articles on the nature of creativity and restrictions on creativity.
