Michael Whelan is making the cover for A Memory of Light

Michael Whelan was selected to do the cover for A Memory of Light's paper and ebook release covers due to Darrell K. Sweet's passing last year.

Whelan says:

I’m flattered to no end to have been asked to work on such a prestigious and popular project. My only regret is that it had to come under such unfortunate circumstances; I never would have accepted had Darrell been here to see the Wheel of Time saga to it’s completion. It will always remain a testament to his career, and I’m humbled to stand in his shadow for the work on the final volume.

It's some sad news that Sweet has passed. An amazing artist that will definitely be missed. In terms of replacements though, Whelan is a real powerhouse when it comes to art in the genre. He's made some really spectacular covers in the past. Just take a look at, say, the cover for , or things from the series.
